I bought a cheap box of laminate flooring and use 5 or 6 sheets of that as a floor on top of the carpet under my rolling office chair I’ve tried a few different mats, none work well. This has worked well for me since i started working from home when covid started in early 2020.

The main issue with placing on a carpet is that over time, the pc will sink down a little, and the carpet will block the airflow of the power supply, which is bad news
Either get a hard piece of wood for it to sit on or a pc stand to keep it raised away from the carpet. There are two styles of chair mats Flat for thin carpets and hard surfaces and studded for thicker carpets In my experience the mats with the little spikes help keep it from moving, but the more plush the carpet the more the mat will move if you go off the mat.
